South Padre Island honors Captain Juan Herrera with retirement proclamation

The representative said the flag and certificate were presented "in honor" of Herrera's decades of distinguished service.
Herrera addressed the council and attendees, thanked city staff, family and colleagues, recalled early mentors and said he will remain available to support the department after his retirement. He also noted the team-oriented nature of municipal public safety and praised the department's training and community engagement.
The council accepted the presentation and moved on with its agenda. No formal policy or funding action accompanied the recognition.
The proclamation and the flag presentation conclude the city's formal public recognition of Captain Herrera's retirement; the council continued to other agenda items afterward.
