Brewster County Commissioners approve routine business, grants, leases and tourism contracts

The Brewster County Commissioners Court met Feb. 10, 2026, in Alpine and approved a slate of routine business, grant resolutions and contracts in unanimous votes. Judge Greg P. Henington presided and all motions reported in the record passed 5-0.
The court approved minutes for its Jan. 13 and Jan. 27 meetings. Comptroller Malynda Richardson presented invoices with and without purchase orders and recurring expenses; the court approved those items and adopted budget amendments as presented. Judge Henington also described facility maintenance priorities, including a preventive A/C replacement plan for the Red Pattillo Center and Val Beard complex using LATCF funds and noted the need for courthouse roof maintenance and additional elections office space.
Grant Administrator Jaclyn Nunley presented a package of FY27 grant resolutions — listed in the record as a Senate Bill 8 resolution, a Criminal Justice Grant resolution, a Body Worn Camera resolution and an Operation Lone Star resolution — and noted a StoneGarden grant item that had been omitted from the agenda. Commissioner Ruben Ortega moved to approve the presented resolutions; Commissioner Mo Morrow seconded and the motion passed 5-0.
The court approved a financing lease with Dell for the purchase of ten desktop computers after Commissioner Ortega moved for approval and Commissioner Jim Westermann seconded. Commissioner Colando moved to approve a trench permit from Big Bend Telephone for Road & Bridge work; Commissioner Ortega seconded and the motion passed.
The court also approved four tourism advertising contracts presented by Robert Alvarez of Visit Big Bend: a contract for American Archeology Magazine, a full-page ad in Texas Highways, renewal of the Tour Texas web portal listing, and four full-page advertisements in National Geographic (U.K.). Commissioner Ortega moved to approve all four contracts; Commissioner Colando seconded and the motion passed 5-0.
