Board clears beer sales, bus use and venue logistics for July 4 anniversary events

The board voted to allow the city to sell and serve alcohol at the July concert in accordance with its license, after discussion about whether approval should specify beer, wine or all malt beverages.

During the agenda presentation, organizers described site logistics for the 150th-anniversary Mountain Top events (July 3–5): a stage on the east side of the field, VIP sections, vendor plans, temporary restrooms, protective matting for the track, security provided by Badlands Security, and insurance through the South Dakota Public Insurance Alliance. Organizers also requested transportation support; the district heard a motion and approved use of district buses for five community events (Midland and Bridal, Katrina Days, Boys & Girls Club, Cool Deadwood Nights, and the July 4 events) contingent on driver availability.

Why it matters: Board approval allows event organizers to finalize logistics for a large, multi-day community celebration that uses school facilities and district resources. Trustees and staff discussed safety measures, wristbanding at entry, vendor insurance and whether approvals should be limited to beer or broader alcoholic categories; the motion ultimately approved alcohol sales "in accordance with your license."

Administration noted that special permits (brown-bag permit, special liquor license) and insurance certificates will be provided to the district before events and that bus schedules will be coordinated based on driver availability.
