Parks committee selects design firm for Putney Pond boardwalk; $250,000 federal grant pending

"A design firm has been selected for the Putney Pond Woodlands Park Boardwalk, and we're already beginning negotiations," Caroline said. She noted the city is awaiting word on federal grant acceptance.
Don added that while the committee has selected a top design/engineering candidate, the city cannot spend funds on the boardwalk until the approximately $250,000 grant is awarded. "Until we get the $250,000 grant, we can't spend a penny on the boardwalk," Don said, adding that the committee intends to align design and financing so work can begin promptly once funding is secured.
The committee also reported new volunteers (Christina Keenan and Becky Griffin), plans for concerts and Shakespeare in the Park in late April, and a garlic‑mustard removal volunteer day to control invasive plants in Harrods Creek Park.
Next steps: the committee will continue negotiations with the selected firm, monitor the federal grant decision and finalize event promotion once logistics are confirmed.
