Superintendent outlines HVAC training program, facility needs and personnel items

On personnel, the superintendent noted employees selected for county recognition and named retirees and long-serving staff. He listed several human-resources items for approval including a replacement classified bus position effective March 2, 2026; substitute and paraprofessional hires; a last-chance agreement for an employee; stipends funded by Grant for three teachers; an intervention tutor for middle-school math; and two supplemental-contract changes for track. A board member moved to approve items 8 a–g and another member seconded; the transcript does not include a recorded vote.
On adult education, the superintendent proposed converting an underused district space into an HVAC training lab in partnership with Grant Career Center. "This will not cost the district any money other than the use of our space because it will be for adult education," he said, adding that instructors and equipment would come from the Grant partnership.
Facilities items included an electronic district sign to be paid for by an Appalachian Community Grant; the superintendent said the sign will read "New Richmond Schools" and be used to highlight events across district schools. He also said the district is selling surplus assets via GovDeals and asked the board to approve removing three buses with roughly "200,000 plus miles" each. Roofs and AC work were described as out to bid, with the superintendent noting a needed roof repair at Monroe Elementary and a substantial AC-tower repair; a cost estimate given in the transcript was garbled.
The superintendent described a full-length strategic plan with staff focus groups beginning in April, student focus groups and a 15-question survey to be administered in May; parents will be able to review the survey and opt out. He said results will be triangulated with student and staff feedback to guide planning.
The update closed with a brief financial recap for February (total expenses described as just over 2,100,000.0 for the month) and comments about timing of reimbursements and forecasting.
