Summary
The board approved a $650,547 award (plus $65,000 contingency) for East Stadium turf replacement using a Sourcewell cooperative contract, and unanimously approved classroom furniture, Plymouth High School paving and a WAN fiber agreement with Northville; work is scheduled for summer with turf replacement targeted June–July.
The Plymouth‑Canton Community Schools Board of Education approved a slate of facility and technology items drawn from bond and district funds.
Chief finance and operations officer Jill Minnick presented a recommendation to replace the East Stadium synthetic turf after an independent evaluation found the turf had reached the end of its service life. Minnick recommended awarding the project through a Sourcewell cooperative contract to AstroTurf Great Lakes of Novi for $650,547, plus a $65,000 contingency, with work planned for summer installation to be ready for the next school year. "A recent evaluation... determined that the existing turf has reached the end of its service life and needs to be replaced in order to maintain safe playing conditions," Minnick said. The board approved the first‑and‑final resolution by voice vote; the clerk recorded the motion as carrying 6–0.
Brian Gessman of the district’s construction manager (McCarthy & Smith) described a roughly four‑week construction window (mid‑June through early July) for removal of the old turf, regrading of the aggregate base and new turf installation, and said estimated turf service life is about 10–15 years depending on use.
The board also approved, by unanimous vote, final readings to purchase classroom furniture for specified bid packs (EL4, Hoban & Gallimore, and MS3 Discovery) and a paving project at Plymouth High School. The board approved an intergovernmental WAN fiber connectivity agreement with Northville Public Schools as a final reading item; each of those motions passed 6–0.
Minnick said the turf replacement will be paid from bond funds to relieve the general fund of the capital expense; interim minor maintenance work to enable safe play through the spring season will be charged to maintenance accounts if needed.
The board did not discuss any amendments to these motions in the meeting and moved all items forward following formal motions and seconding by board officers; recorded roll calls showed unanimous approval on each action.
