Chisholm board approves emergency baseball co‑op with Northwoods High School

The CHISHOLM PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT board on a voice vote approved an emergency cooperative baseball agreement with Northwoods High School for the 2026 season.
Mister Bakke, who presented the proposal during reports, said Northwoods did not have enough players to field a team while Chisholm had nine boys registered for grades 9–12. "The reason, for the coop is that Northwoods did not have enough kids to field the team, and we had 9 boys register in grades 9 through 12," he said. He added that the high‑school league waived the usual 30‑day notice to allow the co‑op this year.
Under the agreement Chisholm will host the combined team: "Everything will happen in Chisholm. We'll follow our schedule. All the games will be played. Our home games will all be played in Chisholm," Bakke said. He also said Chisholm coaches will lead the team and that the two districts will discuss cost‑sharing arrangements; "superintendent Perkovich will reach out to superintendent Reggie" to discuss how costs would be split, Bakke said.
Board members who moved and seconded the motion identified it as Item 8a on the agenda; the motion was moved by Director Anne Satter and supported by Director Achat and carried by voice vote.
The co‑op is structured as a standing agreement until dissolved, meaning it can continue for subsequent seasons if both districts agree; Bakke said the arrangement is intended as a temporary measure while Northwoods rebuilds its program. The board did not provide final cost‑sharing figures at the meeting.
Next steps: district administrators will coordinate rostering, facilities scheduling and a cost‑sharing discussion between the two superintendents before the season begins.
