East Rutherford PTA reports fundraising, events and opens leadership nominations

Lyon said PTA membership stands at 229 and summarized recent fundraisers: a box-of-cards sale and a Gertrude Hawk candy sale (deliveries expected March 25), and a Saint Patrick’s Day coin challenge at Mackenzie School that raised $1,065; Lyon said Missus Narkowitz’s second-grade classroom raised the highest amount and will receive a pizza party on April 1. He also described the PTA’s “Kids Night Out” event in March, which Lyon said was attended by more than 150 students and their families and featured DJs, games and a magician.
Lyon described partnership work with the East Rutherford Fire Department to distribute smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors obtained through a grant, saying the PTA has three alarms remaining from an allotment of about 80. He also announced that nominations are open for PTA leadership roles (president, vice president, treasurer, secretary) and invited interested parents to contact the PTA for details.
The PTA update was given during the public comment portion of the meeting; the board proceeded to executive session afterward for a closed review of the budget.
