Clive council awards $82,086 contract to repair 86th Street after water-main damage

The Clive City Council approved a resolution awarding the contract for a small pavement repair project on 86th Street to the low responsive bidder for $82,086.
Public works staff (Jim) said the repair addresses undermining caused by a water-main break earlier in the year in the northbound lanes near Bruce Engine. "We received 4 bids. 3 of the 4 were under the engineer's estimate," Jim said, and staff recommended awarding the contract to the low, responsive concrete contractor with prior local experience.
Why it matters: The repair restores a travel lane damaged by utility failure and aims to limit prolonged access disruption for adjacent businesses. Jim said businesses will retain access via alternate parking or temporary routing and that the project is scheduled to start around Oct. 6 with 20 working days of work.
The council moved, seconded and approved the award by a 4-0 vote.
Next steps: Contractor onboarding and pre-construction coordination with affected businesses are expected before the October start.
