Resident urges repairs at county pistol range, citing deep potholes, frozen porta-potties and lead concerns

During the public comment period William Marola identified himself as a resident of Edgewater Township and an Atlantic County firefighters association employee who also works at the county pistol range. Marola asked the Board to inspect and repair the access roadway (he described potholes so deep they have damaged vehicles), fix a nonworking porta-potty trailer that froze during the winter and restore water so users can wash after exposure to lead and powder from firearms.
"There's nothing to wash your hands with," Marola said, describing concerns about lead exposure for range users and staff. He said the range is used by multiple agencies, including municipal police departments, out-of-county departments, and federal users, and observed that the facility is the only county-run range of its kind in the state, to his knowledge.
County staff responded that the main range building was vacated and has undergone cleaning, HVAC and filtration work; they said lead mitigation testing is scheduled and that the building should reopen after final testing. A public-works representative acknowledged that the access-road potholes are severe and said crews would inspect and make repairs.
The board thanked Mr. Marola for raising the issue and staff committed to follow up on remediation, plumbing repairs and road maintenance.
