Calexico Unified trustees approve grants, vendor contracts and multiple articulation agreements in unanimous votes

The Calexico Unified School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a slate of routine and project-specific items, including grant awards, vendor contracts, articulation agreements with Imperial Valley College and construction-related procurement, during a regular meeting that preceded a closed session.
Superintendent Jimenez described an awarded grant from the Southern California Regional Energy Network that will provide industrial-size energy-saving water heaters and installation to multiple schools at no cost to the district. "It's a total of about a $115,000 for this grant," he said, and the board approved the agreement with the network.
On professional development, Jimenez proposed hosting the AVID Summer Institute locally at the Q Casino to expand capacity and reduce costs. He said the San Diego institute previously cost roughly $251,000 for district participants; holding a local event would allow 100 staff to attend and save approximately $133,375. "For 30 staff more ... and for a $133,000 less, we could host this training in the Imperial Valley," he said. The board approved the venue agreement for the AVID training.
Other unanimous approvals included:
- Agreements with Family Leadership Training and Materials (Item 2). - Electrical repairs at Maines Elementary with Premier Electrical Solutions Inc. (Item 3). - Articulation agreements with Imperial Valley College for several CTE courses (Items 7—): Introduction to Criminal Justice (AJ 100), Criminal Procedures (AJ 106), AUT 130 and Medical Terminology (AHP 100). - A memorandum of understanding with the Calexico Wellness Center to implement the Elevate Youth California program (Item 11). - Awards of request-for-proposal pools and contracts for Measure Q projects and inspections (Items 12 and 13), including HBI Inspections, Precision Inspections Inc., Paragon Inspection Services and Landmark Consultants. - Notice of completion for paving projects at Calexico High School and Kennedy Gardens Elementary School (Item 14). - A resolution accepting a contract for technology solutions from Dell Technologies (Item 15), which passed after verbal affirmative votes recorded by the president.
Most motions were moved and seconded by trustees present and carried on 5-0 votes. Several trustees thanked staff for finding grant opportunities and for efforts to control spending while protecting programs and services.
The meeting recessed into closed session at the end of the public agenda.
