Calabasas Planning Commission elects new chair, reappoints three ARP members and forms ad hoc review committee

The Calabasas Planning Commission on Jan. 15 reorganized its leadership and reappointed members of the city's Architectural Review Panel (ARP).
Outgoing chair (speaker 1) nominated the commission's current vice chair, Commissioner Hazzena, to serve as chair; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote with no recorded opposition. Commissioner Hazzena (speaker 2) accepted the position and thanked commissioners for their trust.
The commission then nominated Commissioner Washburn to serve as vice chair; that motion was seconded and approved unanimously by voice vote.
Under new business, staff recommended reappointing three incumbent ARP applicants whose two-year terms had expired in October 2025. Staff described the ARP as a five-member advisory body (two alternates) that reviews site plans, architecture and landscape design and forwards recommendations to the planning commission and city council. The commission moved to reappoint the three incumbents present, and the motion passed by unanimous voice vote.
The commission also voted unanimously to form an ad hoc, two-member committee to review applicants for the two remaining ARP vacancies and forward candidates to the planning commission. Commissioners encouraged the ARP members to refer other qualified designers and planners to staff to help fill open seats.
Outgoing chair (speaker 1) thanked commissioners for the opportunity to serve over the previous two-and-a-half years before the meeting adjourned.
