At its June 5 meeting, the Albia City Council approved multiple personnel and administrative actions and recorded vote tallies on several motions.
The council approved the consent agenda on a 6-0 vote after a motion by Councilmember Chris Yarkosky and a second from Kathy Mobley. Council then accepted a petition requesting a stop-sign study and referred it to the police department for recommendation (referral accepted; no recorded vote beyond acceptance).
On personnel matters, the council approved advertising for a chief of police and a patrol officer (motion by Brandon Williams, second by Kathy Mobley; carried 6-0). The council appointed Eric Miller as sanitation commissioner (motion by Merle Regenold, second by Dennis Conley; carried 6-0) and approved advertising for and hiring a sanitation laborer (motion by Brandon Williams, second by Scott Kelly; carried 6-0).
A request from the Street Commissioner to purchase a loader (to be funded from next fiscal year’s department budget) was discussed but died for lack of a motion; no purchase was authorized.
The council approved a contract for annual audit services from Faller, Kincheloe & Co., PLC for an amount not to exceed $11,700; the motion (moved by Scott Kelly, seconded by Chris Yarkosky) carried 4-2, with Kathy Mobley and Dennis Conley voting no. The council also authorized lien searches to be done by a local abstracting business at $40 each (motion by Scott Kelly, second by Dennis Conley); that motion carried 5-1 with Merle Regenold voting no.
Councilmembers raised several other items during council comments, including a request for an update on the South Clinton bridge, potential use of ARPA funds for police wages, and community concerns about animal control and railroad crossings. The meeting adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
