The Carlsbad Library Department reported on semiannual donations covering Jan. 1–June 30, 2024, during the Aug. 28 board meeting.
Management analyst Debbie Jo McCool said the department received nearly $32,000 from 14 individual contributors during the reporting period, with $469 unspecified and $31,500 designated for specific uses. Notable gifts include a $30,000 installment from George and Constance Crowell for new seating at the Dove Library; the transcript indicates that pledge is part of a total $100,000 commitment from the donors.
Support organization contributions were also summarized: staff reported $205,000 received for fiscal year 2023–24 and $300,000 earmarked for fiscal year 2024–25. The presentation explained the city’s recognition levels and the donation-acceptance process: per Carlsbad Municipal Code §2.08.100, donations greater than $5,000 require city council acceptance; departmental staff and the city manager have delegated authority for smaller gifts. The department also recognizes donors on its website for gifts of $250 or more.
McCool said new seating has arrived and will be installed at the Dove Library and power outlets will be added for patrons. She invited trustees to review the department webpage for donation details and recognition levels.
