Katie Nye, director of Library and Cultural Arts, read the proclamation on behalf of Mayor Keith Blackburn, saying, "Whereas, Sherman de Forest has diligently served on the Carlsbad Library Board Of Trustees for 8 years with dedication and distinction, volunteering his time to advocate for the interests of library patrons in the community." The proclamation noted de Forest's advocacy for new technology, continued services during the COVID‑19 pandemic and support for expanding virtual programs and digital collections.
The proclamation acknowledged that de Forest twice served as board chair and praised his data‑informed perspective: "who is passionate about data informed decision making provided critical community perspective and analysis resulting in improved services to meet the changing needs of the community," Nye read.
Trustees offered brief remarks of appreciation. Trustee Gina McBride said she would "miss you, Guy," and others thanked de Forest for his service. De Forest said he had "enjoyed these 8 years" and expressed gratitude.
The recognition was ceremonial; no formal board action was recorded beyond the reading of the proclamation. The board proceeded to regular business following the presentation.
