San Diego proclaims 10th anniversary for Trans Family Support Services

The San Diego City Council on July 15 unanimously approved a proclamation honoring Trans Family Support Services (TFSS) on its 10th anniversary. Councilmember Whitburn moved the proclamation and Councilmember Campbell seconded; the vote passed with Councilmember Von Wilpert absent.
Kathy Mollig Sheher, who identified herself as the founder and executive director of Trans Family Support Services, told the council TFSS has supported nearly 7,000 trans individuals and their families during the program’s decade of operation. “Join us, volunteer, advocate, fund this work, protect our kids because Pride is not a party. It is a protest,” Sheher said, urging the council to convert recognition into action.
Councilmembers framed the proclamation as both a celebration and a reaffirmation of city values. Councilmember Whitburn said the nonprofit’s work is “arguably more vital than ever” given policy pressures at other levels of government. Several other councilmembers thanked TFSS for local partnerships and urged continued support for youth services and affirming school and health partnerships.
The proclamation will be filed in the council record; no additional fiscal actions or regulatory changes were attached to the measure.
The council moved quickly from public testimony into a procedural vote after the remarks and paused afterward for a ceremonial photo.
The council will continue discussing items later in the agenda; the proclamation itself required no further hearings.
