Those motions passed unanimously after standard roll‑call approvals. Commissioners also approved reappointments of Randy Register, Teresa Smith and Willie Brown to the county Planning & Zoning Board for terms extending through Dec. 31, 2027, and approved creating a Public Safety Director position to be filled through the county hiring process.
The actions were taken as part of the meeting’s consent and agenda items. County Manager Thomas Weaver reported engineering work is underway to prepare LMIG bid packets and said staff continue to address operational items including a stray‑facility inspection that produced an early report with a 30‑day correction window. The board recorded that an employee‑termination appeal required no action.
At 6:11 p.m. the board voted to enter executive session to discuss legal matters and reconvened at 7:07 p.m.; Chairman Charles Coffey stated the closed session involved subjects within the statutory exceptions to the Open Meetings Act and that no votes were taken while in executive session.
What happens next: reappointed planning commissioners begin their new terms and the county will proceed with LMIG bidding and any required follow‑up on the stray‑facility inspection. The commission adjourned the Feb. 4 meeting at 7:09 p.m.
