SC Office of Resilience schedules April 23 drop‑in meeting on Grama Station stormwater project

Kevin O'Dell, a public information coordinator for the South Carolina Office of Resilience, told Georgetown County’s First Friday program that a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will fund stormwater infrastructure improvements in the Grama Station community.
O'Dell said the project moves into a community engagement phase and that engineers under contract will use both technical data (drainage infrastructure and elevation) and residents’ on‑the‑ground observations to prioritize design decisions. ‘‘It is extremely valuable to have someone come in and point out a map and say, this section of road right here floods every single time it rains,’’ he said.
The office scheduled a drop‑in public meeting for Thursday, April 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at New Light Baptist Church, 316 Amelia Drive, Georgetown. Staff hope to have about 90% of the design and cost estimate done by summer and a 100% design by fall, after which the work will be bid; O'Dell estimated construction activity could extend into late 2027 before final completion.
O'Dell urged residents to attend the meeting and provide anecdotal flood observations that will help refine the engineers’ plan. The meeting is part of a federally funded hazard mitigation effort under the state Office of Resilience.
