He said staff will place the new pumps at the most critical lift stations and use them in combination with existing generators. "These pumps are gonna be essentially, connecting to the bypass of the valving that it's in the lift station vault so that in case there's damage to the control panel, these pumps aren't powering something that... it'll take over," Mister Cisneros said.
Staff explained the units will include float controls so they can operate automatically when station levels reach set elevations. The procurement request — $187,815 to MWI Corporation for three portable diesel bypass pumps — was presented as a planned replacement for an aging fleet and was described as a storm‑readiness measure that also has maintenance uses.
A motion to approve the purchase was moved and seconded and the roll‑call vote recorded unanimous approval from the five voting members present.
