The Pope County quorum court voted unanimously to approve an ordinance authorizing the county judge to transfer property and six pieces of equipment from the county EMS department to the Bayless Rural Fire Department and to declare an emergency.
A presenter described six pieces of equipment included in the transfer and said the items otherwise would have been auctioned; Justice McCall moved the ordinance and a second was recorded. After a title reading, the court conducted a roll call and approved the ordinance.
Court members framed the transfer as support for volunteer fire departments and described the transfer as a cost-effective reuse of county property rather than auctioning the equipment.
