Council advances multiple boards-and-commissions nominees, schedules ties for full council

Charleston County Council moved through a long slate of nominations for boards and commissions, advancing several applicants and referring tie votes to the full council for resolution.
During the Board of Assessment Appeals nominations, Councilmember Chaney Pryor nominated the Rev. Dr. Herb Baird; the roll-call resulted in a tie and Pryor moved that the nomination be sent to the full council for Tuesday. For the Community Development Advisory Board, Samuel Baez introduced himself as a Union Heights resident and a senior advancement officer at Trident United Way and was nominated by council.
For the Parks & Recreation Commission, multiple applicants — including Noah Rosenthal, Stephanie Burghardt, Gilbert Bridal and Kate Everingham — spoke about their backgrounds and interest in serving; after roll-call votes produced a tie among candidates, the council moved two nominees forward to Tuesday’s meeting. For the Saint John’s Fire District vacancy, Larry Wallahan introduced himself and council selected him as the nominee by roll-call.
Applicants for the Disabilities & Special Needs Board included Acresha Mitchell, Lucretia Mitchell and Britney Potter; council closed nominations and advanced two nominees for consideration. Several nominations were approved by voice vote and others were advanced to the full council where ties or multiple candidates required final decisions.
