Council committee backs zoning changes aimed at short-term rental transparency

Council members, including the member identified as Moody, praised staff and the planning commission for addressing proliferation of short-term rentals and said the changes will allow constituents to know when renewals are coming and provide input. “This has been an issue with proliferation of short term rentals,” one councilmember said. “Allowing our folks, our constituents to be more involved in the process, more transparent — they can know when renewals are coming up. They can weigh in.”
After brief discussion the committee adopted the amendments by voice vote. The committee did not provide a roll-call tally in the transcript. The amendments were presented as a means to increase public awareness and participation in renewal decisions; staff was encouraged to return with additional updates as issues arise.
