Committee accepts literacy and private grants, notes resignations and field‑trip approvals
Summary
The committee recorded a $27,000 state grant for an ELA leadership team, learned of a $50,000 Barr Foundation award to a school project, noted resignations from two staffers, and reviewed district field‑trip approval policy (overnight/out‑of‑state trips require 30‑day committee approval).

The Jan. 20 meeting included several administrative updates: staff said the district will receive a roughly $27,000 grant to support an ELA leadership team focused on elementary literacy and English‑language‑arts curriculum work; staff described the grant as restricted to specific, grant‑defined activities such as substitute coverage for teacher release time and stipends for teacher meetings.
"This money is going to be used for the ELA leadership team across the district ... to pay for some substitutes so that we can have teachers released during the school day to do classroom walk throughs and actually measure the level of rigor," an administrator (Doctor Kelly) said.
Separately, staff announced that Principal Mulligan has been awarded $50,000 from the Barr Foundation for a CidiLab project; staff framed these private and public grants as part of an active district grant‑seeking strategy. The committee also reviewed the district policy that donations or grants of $1,000 or more must come before the committee for approval on the consent calendar.
Personnel changes were noted: Sarah Hummus submitted a resignation to take a post in Georgetown; Melissa Lomas also resigned to pursue an outdoor 'forest school' project. Staff said positions will be posted when the administration finalizes budget numbers.
Finally, staff listed five upcoming field trips (ROTC regional competition, robotics competitions and other events), noting out‑of‑state or overnight trips require committee approval and must be submitted at least 30 days before the trip for a vote.
