Summary
Director of Fine Arts Kelly Williams reported enrollment in district arts courses rose from about 957 pre‑COVID to 1,236 this year, with expanded ensembles, stronger ninth‑grade access and upcoming summer performing arts offerings.
Kelly Williams, director of fine arts for Revere Public Schools, told the school committee on March 17 that arts participation across the district has increased substantially in recent years.
Williams said overall arts enrollment rose from roughly 957 pre‑COVID to about 1,236 students this year, and that ninth graders now have greater access to music, theater and visual arts electives. "We're coming down a little bit, but in terms of the push of how many students are now enrolling in the arts ... we now have 1,236 students enrolled in the arts," she said.
The district has expanded ensembles from a single rock ensemble to include jazz and pop ensembles; middle and elementary programs have also grown, Williams said. She highlighted successes including three seniors accepted to MassArt, a Museum School acceptance, an increase in Revere Youth Singers from 94 to 150 students, and a well‑attended Revere Sings event with more than 1,000 attendees.
Williams described plans for a summer performing‑arts program for grades 4–12, running Monday–Thursday in July, and noted upcoming school musicals and middle‑school festival participation. Committee members praised the department and asked about preserving visual artworks for the planned new high school; Williams said architects are exploring options to move or reproduce murals in the new facility.
The director said the program aims to continue broadening student access to music, theater and visual arts while offering performance opportunities across the city.
