Commissioners add reappointments, manager contract and language‑access resolution to regular agenda

Several routine personnel and compliance items were placed on the regular meeting agenda during the Ware County work session on Dec. 8.
Chief Tax Appraiser Billy Carter requested reappointment of Darrell Roberson to the Board of Assessors; County Manager James Shubert said Carlos Nelson (Post 1) and Ramona Thrift (Post 5) agreed to reappointment on the Recreation Board for five‑year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2026 and ending Dec. 31, 2031. The Recreation Board was reactivated in January 2025 and initial terms were staggered; upon reappointment each member will serve a full five‑year term.
Mr. Shubert also presented a proposed three‑year employment contract extending his role as county manager from Jan. 1, 2026 through Dec. 31, 2028; his current probationary year‑long contract expires Dec. 31, 2025. The proposed extension was added to the regular meeting agenda for formal consideration.
County Clerk Melinda Brooks explained the need to adopt a revised Language Access Plan for Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), the Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) and HUD and other federal grants; approving Resolution 2025‑25 documents the county's compliance with those requirements. That resolution was added to the regular meeting agenda.
Also noted in the work session: a Center Street road‑closing item was tabled from Nov. 10 pending further information, and a request from the Waycross Exchange Club to install a $1,300 Freedom Shrine in the administration building was discussed and likewise added to the regular meeting agenda for consideration of placement.
