Ware County approves airport tree-removal study and runway design; county share of design ~ $3,700

The Ware County Board of Commissioners voted Dec. 8 to approve two work orders with Passero Associates, LLC addressing safety and rehabilitation at the county airport.
The board approved Work Order 25-15 to study and remove tree obstructions after the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) cited trees in the glide path and warned the county it could lose federal funding if the obstructions were not addressed. Commissioner Leonard Burse moved the work order; County Manager James Shubert said GDOT gave the ultimatum and that, depending on location, some trees might be cut back rather than fully removed.
Separately, the board approved Work Order 25-12 for the design of Runway 1/19 rehabilitation. The design contract is $137,516; Ware County is responsible for 2.5% of the total cost, approximately $3,700. Commissioner Jon Tindall said the project will be large and will require extensive asphalt. Both work orders passed by roll-call vote at the meeting.
