Assistant Superintendent Laura Norbut presented the Suffield School District’s 2024–25 Next Generation Accountability Report, a 12-indicator model that emphasizes student growth and measures beyond static test scores, such as access to the arts and physical fitness.
Norbut reported the district moved from 15th to 8th in its District Reference Group (DRG) C and showed improvement in 14 of 22 sub-indicators; three indicators remained at 100%. She credited month-by-month absenteeism monitoring and targeted family interventions for reducing chronic absenteeism.
To sustain and build on the gains, the administration outlined a set of actions: continue implementing Bridges in Mathematics and Amplify CKLA (K–5) with fidelity and coaching support; align district-wide MTSS processes, including chronic-absenteeism interventions; continue Illustrative Mathematics and acceleration-model intervention work in grades 6–8; provide Tier 1 curricular professional learning for special educators; and collaborate with physical education to pilot fitness assessments.
Board members discussed areas where the district remains short and asked for future year-over-year reporting and clearer index-rate explanations from the state-generated report.
