Gwen Allen Karsten, who identified herself as an East Hill resident, told the council that potholes across Kent have become "unacceptable," are damaging vehicles and pose safety hazards, and demanded a transparent repair timeline and prioritization. "We need a clear and transparent plan for pothole repair, a timeline for addressing the most impacted areas, and consistent communication," she said.
A second commenter, identified as TJ, praised the police department’s focus on street‑level drug trafficking and called attention to street‑level outreach organizations (including a local Salvation Army street‑level program). TJ urged more housing and shelter capacity, said the city has too few housing units relative to households and welcomed recent state steps to ease emergency housing barriers.
Longtime resident Mike Heinzel offered praise for the council’s functioning and civic engagement, saying he watches many local government bodies and finds Kent’s operations effective.
Mayor Dana Ralph thanked speakers for engaging and noted staff will take public comments into account when prioritizing maintenance and service work.
