SBCTA official outlines Measure I spending and seeks Adelanto input

Otis Grier, a representative of the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority, told the Adelanto City Council on June 25 that Measure I — a locally controlled half‑cent sales tax dedicated to transportation — has been a major funding source for regional roads, transit and safety projects.
Grier said Measure I, first approved by voters in 1989 and extended by voters in 2004, has helped fund projects such as the SR‑210 extension and local arterial improvements. “Measure I is a half cent sales tax that is a use tax,” Grier said, adding that the measure has leveraged roughly $2.9 billion in state and federal investment and returned about $700 million to local jurisdictions.
The presentation summarized how Measure I dollars are allocated and overseen and invited local feedback on future priorities. Council members pressed for practical outreach: Councilwoman Evans asked whether the presentation could be shared on the city website and on council members’ pages; Grier said SBCTA would provide materials and help the city distribute them. Mayor Reyes said the council would use its social‑media channels and a “mayor minute” to explain projects and benefits to residents.
Mayor Pro Tem Ramos, who serves on SBCTA, stressed the local impact and urged active advocacy to keep Adelanto competitive for Measure I funding. He described a newly formed Measure I ad hoc committee that will review the ordinance and said he will participate in outreach and planning.
