Moriarty-Edgewood, N.M. — The Moriarty-Edgewood School District board unanimously appointed Elizabeth Howells to the vacant District 3 seat at a special meeting on July 29, 2025.
The board met at 6 p.m. for a short special session called to order by a presiding board member to meet a mandatory deadline. Vice President Denny Young introduced a guest, saying, "Elizabeth Howells is with us today." The board moved to adopt the meeting agenda and then approved the minutes from its July 15 regular meeting by voice vote.
During discussion the board noted it had advertised the vacancy and received no other applications during the posting period; a board member said Howells "has expressed her interest in coming back and helping us out." The superintendent recommended appointing Howells to represent District 3, and a board member moved to appoint her. The motion was seconded and the board took a roll call vote. The minutes record ayes from Linda Hudson, Albert Chavez and Denny Young; the motion carried and board members welcomed Howells back to the board.
The board completed a final procedural motion to adjourn, which passed by voice vote, and the meeting ended shortly afterward.
