Lawmaker says being herself is her 'mayor superpower'

A Corona City lawmaker said her family inspired her public service and described "being myself" as her "mayor superpower." The remarks came in a short, interview-style exchange that also touched on the challenges of leadership and her pride in community participation.

The lawmaker said she draws inspiration from close family members, listing "My husband, my mom, my mother-in-law," and added that seeing others do "inspirational things" motivates people to follow suit. "If people are doing inspirational things in their lives, it kind of makes you wanna do the very same thing," she said.

Asked whether she had a mayoral superpower, the lawmaker said, "My mayor superpower is being myself." She elaborated that leaders will hear competing pressure about how they "should be, what you should do," and urged people to "trust yourself, and that should be your superpower as well."

On the demands of the job, she said: "I think every day as a leader is a challenge, but it's also an opportunity," and reassured listeners that unresolved issues are not necessarily permanent: "Just because your issue hasn't gotten solved today doesn't mean it won't be solved tomorrow, but we're working on it."

The lawmaker said one of her proudest moments is seeing former students return as adults with families and young children participating in community events. As the interview closed she offered greetings referencing Corona and noted Women’s History Month.
