Trustees approved a series of labor actions intended to provide multi-year stability and address post-budget staffing needs. Assistant Superintendent Vince Mintz summarized multiple MOUs and tentative agreements: a 2-year tentative agreement with the Travis Unified Teachers Association (TUDA) that includes a 1% off-schedule payment for the current school year and a 2.3% COLA effective July 1; a parallel two-year agreement with the Classified School Employees Association (CSEA) with comparable salary adjustments; and MOUs covering extra work assignments and preschool program pilots.
Vince said the agreements also included non-salary language changes such as common planning time, additional workdays, reclassification process updates, and workload clarifications for specialized preschool classrooms. He noted membership ratification occurred where required before bringing items to the board.
On layoffs, staff said the initial staffing reduction notice impacted 13 employees in total FTE terms (about 10.56 FTE after accounting for hours and vacancies), but subsequent resignations, bumping and partial restorations reduced the number of individuals actually separated; staff reported roughly 8-9 people remain unemployed as a result of board actions to reduce FTE. Trustees asked for an update at the August meeting after the start of school to confirm final impact and any further changes.
The board voted to approve the MOUs, the two-year tentative agreements with TUDA and CSEA and updated salary schedules for certificated, classified and unrepresented employees. Trustees praised the multi-year approach as supportive of recruitment and morale.
