Allendale council approves consent agenda, authorizes final streetscape phase

The Allendale Mayor and Council approved a consent agenda on Dec. 4 that included routine contract renewals and authorization for the final phase of the borough’s streetscape project.

Mayor Walzinski opened the meeting and described the consent items as “perfunctory,” listing contracts up for renewal — tree removal, ground maintenance, janitorial services and snow‑plow service — and the streetscape work covering the remaining stretch on David Ferriero and a small area near the Allendale State House.

Why it matters: the streetscape project is the last planned segment of a multi‑year downtown improvement effort and the consent vote allows staff to move forward with contracting for that work without a separate roll call on each item.

Councilman O'Toole moved to approve the minutes and later moved approval of the consent agenda; the presiding officers then registered the council’s assent. Clerk Linda completed the roll call after the motion, and the mayor announced the items were approved.

The council also noted administrative scheduling: the council’s annual meeting schedule was confirmed and an upcoming January meeting is set for Jan. 5. Additional routine agenda items — the bills list and contract renewals — were discussed briefly but required no separate action after the consent vote.

Next steps: with the consent agenda approved, borough staff may finalize contracts tied to the streetscape and the listed service renewals. The council’s next regular meeting is scheduled for Dec. 18.
