Fanwood's recreation event draws nearly 600 registrants; organizers plan debrief

Councilwoman Erin McElroy Barker told the council that the Fanwood Family Pizza Run and 5K on Oct. 15 was the town's largest race to date, drawing 595 registrants: 329 in the 5K and 266 in the fun run. She credited expanded promotion, a revised route and additional sponsors for the increase.
"We had a total of 595 registrants...by far the biggest race we have ever held," McElroy Barker said, and she thanked the Recreation Commission volunteers, local sponsors, police, fire, EMTs and DPW staff who supported the event.
Organizers said they will hold debrief meetings to review what worked and what did not and to solicit community feedback ahead of next year's planning. The council also announced family-oriented upcoming events including a Police "Pumpkins" event on Oct. 28 and the Halloween parade/costume contest on Oct. 31.
Council recognized the role of local businesses and volunteers in the event and encouraged additional volunteer support for future events.
