Working parent opposes proposed 2026–27 calendar changes; board says no action tonight

Katie Baldiseri Parks, a Morristown parent, said the district's draft 2026–27 calendar changes would harm working families and asked the board to reconsider moving to a full week off in November.
“As a working single parent, I feel completely disregarded by these proposed changes,” Parks said, describing increased childcare costs and instructional disruption for her child, who benefits from small-group instruction that begins in October. Parks asked whether the district had consulted teachers broadly and said the timing of the notice left many working parents unable to attend the meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Marucci responded that the district had presented a draft calendar for broad feedback and that the district had shared it with union leadership and planned outreach; she said the board would record all comments and circulate a revised calendar in advance of any adoption vote. The board president stressed again that no action would be taken at the meeting and encouraged written feedback.
The board did not vote on the calendar at the meeting and said it will collect additional stakeholder input and review the schedule before any future action.
