Kiwanis Club donates $20,000 to Perry’s Mountain View Bike Park; construction expected late April

Council Member Dave Walker said the city has secured state and county grants for the Mountain View Bike Park but needed additional community funding to finish the first phase. "Construction will begin at the end of April with completion expected by the end of May," Walker said, outlining grant support from the Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation, Box Elder County and city funding.

Jim Kaminska, President of the Kiwanis Club of Brigham City, introduced the club’s pitch to the council. "We look for signature projects that serve children," Kaminska said, announcing the group had raised $20,000 through club members and individual donors. Kiwanis member Myron Workman noted the club would also provide volunteer hours for maintenance and park activities and that the partnership began through a local connection at Pronghorn Bicycles.

Walker read a city acceptance letter thanking Kiwanis for the donation and describing the city’s sponsorship commitments: adding "Kiwanis" to the phase-1 park name, placing the Kiwanis logo on the main trail sign, allowing Kiwanis to name two trails in phase 1, providing a sign visible to park users, listing Kiwanis in sponsor recognition, publishing sponsorship information on the park website, and granting Kiwanis right of first refusal for top-tier sponsorship in phase 2. A ceremonial signing took place; council members said formal ratification of the sponsorship agreement will occur at a future council meeting.

The council and Kiwanis members said the financial gift and volunteer support should help the city complete phase 1 on the stated schedule, pending minor land repair work noted by staff.
