Summary
Narberth Parks & Rec voted to show Up on May 15 (rain date following day) and Back to the Future on Sept. 19, approved vendor contracting approach and set promotion to begin late March. Staff will confirm licensing costs and vendor logistics before public release.
The Narberth Parks & Recreation advisory board voted Tuesday to show the animated film Up on its May 15 movie night and Back to the Future on Sept. 19. The decisions, made during the board’s annual park user meeting, were unanimous.
Board members reviewed a pre‑vetted list of candidate films and discussed licensing and cost differences with staff. “The company had the rights to it,” a staff member said when confirming the vendor could run films from the provided list. Board members noted newer animated titles typically carry higher licensing fees.
Megan Lochman, executive director of Take a Breather Foundation, told the board her group would continue to coordinate on event-day closures and logistics for community races and gatherings. Staff said contracts are signed to lock in spring and fall dates; if the vendor’s final cost exceeds the estimate, the vendor will invoice the borough or send a check per the contract arrangement.
The board agreed promotion would begin at the end of March, with listings in the borough newsletter, 8½x11 flyers posted in storefront windows and posts to local Facebook community groups. The May showing will begin at dusk (about 7:30 p.m. in summer); fall start times were discussed at roughly 6:30 p.m. The board also confirmed rain dates for each film will be the following day at the same times.
Food trucks have not yet committed; the board asked staff to continue vendor outreach and to explore volunteer‑run concessions as a backup. Staff will finalize licensing costs and logistics before the events are publicized.
