Board to honor Vietnam veteran Sgt. Sylvester McIntosh with street dedication

McIntosh recounted his service in Vietnam, including being wounded, receiving a Purple Heart and later engaging in decades of community service as a minister and mentor. Multiple veterans and community members, including a colonel who spoke in support, described his actions during an ambush and his role in the community.
Commissioner Fletcher moved to install six or seven commemorative signs on 86th Lane (between 66th and 63rd avenues) and offered to cover materials costs if needed; the motion was seconded and carried. Family and supporters came forward for photos and recognition.
What’s next: Staff will coordinate sign placement and a dedication event with McIntosh’s family and the county’s public‑works or traffic division as appropriate.
