Summary
Staff reported a new mural called 'The Reading Post' and new bookbenches by Printerra/Justin D'Angelo, repairs to an artwork called 'Serenity,' an upcoming Sailfish Splash refresh, and plans to move 'Silent Sounds of Service' to Palm City Firehouse No. 21 and three other sculptures to Golden Gate/El Camino.
At the March 23 meeting the Martin County Public Art Advisory Committee received multiple project updates from staff.
Susan Korres said the newest completed mural, "The Reading Post" by Nate d, will have a small opening coordinated with the library. Korres introduced new 'bookbenches' manufactured by Printerra and credited Justin D'Angelo for the work; she said the benches installed at Hobe Sound Library include engraved tops listing favorite books and a plaque honoring a longtime librarian.
Korres also reported ongoing restoration work: artist Shannon Wiley is refreshing murals at Sailfish Splash, and Brenda Lee is repairing the 'Serenity' piece and is expected to have it back on display at Blake Library around May after recovering from injuries to both wrists.
On decommissioning and relocation, Korres said the YAP Moneystones pieces have been listed on the county auction site with no bids so far and staff will explore additional outreach channels. She said "Silent Sounds of Service" will be moved from Gazebo Park to Palm City Firehouse Number 21 once a concrete pad is poured and that three other large steel sculptures currently at Gazebo Park — 'Tumbling Toward the Sun', 'Red Angle' and a third piece not named in the meeting — are slated to be placed along the El Camino trail in Golden Gate; field operations will pour pads and assist with the moves.
Committee members praised the new benches and mural and thanked volunteers and field operations for installation assistance. Staff said Hope Sound NAC will provide landscaping to add shade near the new benches.
