Board discusses spare pumps, Westgate sign lighting and lift-station work

Board members debated several operational items and improvement ideas for Westgate Technology Park and district lift stations.
Matt reviewed the district’s equipment needs and the board discussed buying a spare pump for every facility to reduce downtime and labor when pumps fail. The Chair said he had spoken with Jeff Farmer and asked Farmer to assess the pump inventory and return next month with recommendations. “I wanted to have a spare pump at every facility in case we needed 1 so you don't have to go in and tear 1 out and then run it over somewhere else,” the Chair said.
Members proposed adding solar lights to illuminate the district’s lift-station logo and creating a five-foot landscaping rock perimeter around several signs to protect them from mower damage. One member noted long-term maintenance concerns, saying landscaping can require ongoing upkeep and weeds can settle in and defeat the intent. The group agreed to consult the district’s sewer operator (Randy) about maintenance feasibility; staff also said they would gather installation details and cost estimates for solar lights.
The board discussed the new lift station north of 558 that will serve recent businesses and confirmed pumps being installed there match the district’s existing pumps for operational compatibility. Staff also noted that some construction was paid by outside grant funds referenced in the meeting as the "ready 2 program" administered by USTF. Members asked staff to confirm whether a recent business (IPIF) had completed its connection; staff said they would check after the meeting.
The board will review Jeff Farmer’s pump assessment next month and asked staff to report back on cost and maintenance plans for any proposed landscaping or lighting.
