Keizer Parks Board approves matching grants for Rotary tool shed and community garden

The Keizer Parks and Recreation Advisory Board unanimously approved two matching grants on March 10: up to $6,000 for a Rotary tool shed to store volunteer tools and equipment, and up to $600 for the Peggy and Jerry Moore Community Garden to buy fertilizer, insect control and other garden supplies.

A Rotary representative told the board the Keizer Rotary Satellite Club would donate $5,500 in materials and supply volunteer labor to assemble and maintain tools and storage; the club said the shed would secure equipment used on volunteer projects such as the city cleanup. "We are willing to put together from the Keizer Rotary Club a $5,500 donation ' to put together a tool shed and all the tools that go in it," the representative said.

Peggy Moore, who directs the Peggy and Jerry Moore Community Garden at Chalmers Jones Park, requested $350 for annual supplies and said $400 or $600 would be helpful given rising prices; the board approved a motion to grant up to $600 to give the garden flexibility.

Both grants passed without opposition. The board record shows motions and seconds on both items and voice votes in favor. Staff will coordinate storage siting and logistics for the Rotary shed and will process the garden grant reimbursement through the existing matching-grant program.
