Ringgold County sets April 6 letting for Middle Fork culvert project after roads update

County Engineer Jared Johnson told the Ringgold County Board of Supervisors on March 23 that crews have completed several culvert replacements and continue work on multiple secondary roads projects.

Johnson reported that spot rock was hauled to the northwest maintainer district, crews built curb forms for an upcoming project, the sign truck repaired damaged signs and plow trucks were dispatched to clear snow and treat slick spots. He gave a status update on a series of work orders, noting W.O.1425 and W.O.1426 (replacement of deteriorated 36-inch CMP culverts with new 36-inch ADS culverts at locations on 240th and 250th Avenues) and W.O.1438 (clearing brush and reshaping a ditch along 210th Street) are complete. He said W.O.1440 (ditch work along 280th Avenue between 280th Street and J55) is in progress.

Johnson also described options for W.O.1442 (the Riley 4 bridge): staff have finalized preliminary hydraulics and are weighing a box culvert versus a bridge. He said a bridge would require a long structure because of channel depth, while a box culvert would be more economical and create an open roadway cross section but likely trigger streambed mitigation requirements.

On the Middle Fork 10 project, Johnson reported crews have installed the downstream dam, dewatered excavation, placed foundation treatment material and begun setting precast sections. Planned work includes finishing precast installation, tightening tie bolts, installing a sheet-pile curtain wall, forming and pouring center joints and floor extensions, placing engineering fabric joint wrap and beginning culvert backfilling.

The board approved the department's final plans for the Middle Fork 10 project and set a local letting date of April 6, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. in the Board of Supervisors office.
