Neighbors oppose mobile home request while planning staff recommends approval at 410 Firetower Rd

Planning and Zoning recommended approval, and the applicants told the commission they currently live in Columbus but wished to relocate to the community. “They would like to come out here because of the community,” an applicant said; the Spillers added they could not afford to build a house and planned to place the home on a concrete slab.
Adjacent property owner Mark Henson spoke against the request, saying he opposed mobile homes in the area and expressing concern about vacant or abandoned units. “Mobile homes depreciate, and when they get vacant and abandoned it makes the county look ugly,” Henson said.
Chairman Charles Coffey noted planning staff had completed the checklist and reported the tract had been subdivided from a larger parcel. The hearing closed with no further public comment; the transcript records that Planning & Zoning had recommended approval but does not record a final commission vote on the permit at that hearing.
The commission will consider the conditional-use permit record as part of its formal decision-making process; the certificate of minutes shows the hearing was adjourned at 9:12 a.m. on May 27.
