Resident raises public-safety and nuisance concerns; realtors announce $7,500 grant for pollinator garden

At the start of public comment, Sharon Halpern, CEO of the Oak Park Area Association of Realtors, said the Village of Forest Park’s request for a $7,500 grant to fund a pollinator and rain garden had been approved by the National Association of Realtors.

"The Village of Forest Park's request for a $7,500 grant, for funding a pollinator and rain garden, has been approved by the National Association of Realtors," Halpern said, and she thanked Mayor Hoskins and village staff for partnering on the green space across from Village Hall.

In a separate public-comment item, resident David Hooper described persistent neighborhood problems tied to a nearby liquor establishment. Hooper said officers responded to calls on March 6 and March 9 for public intoxication and that residents recently saw "4 or 5 individuals who were appear to be very intoxicated getting into a car and driving off." He also cited recurring trash and occasional drug paraphernalia on sidewalks and said the conditions could affect public safety and property values.

Hooper did not request a specific ordinance or enforcement action at the meeting; he said he raised the issues to put them on the village’s radar and acknowledged local resource limits for police enforcement.

What the village said: No formal enforcement action was announced at the meeting; the council and administrator noted police and fire reports were included in meeting packets and thanked emergency personnel for their service.
