Rawlins County approves $6,800 tractor purchase, grader repair and private dozer work to fix washed-out road

The Rawlins County Board of Commissioners on March 2 approved multiple measures to address road maintenance and equipment needs.
Wayne Lanning, Road & Bridge, presented a maintenance schedule and an AKRS quote for a mower tractor. Commissioner Lincoln Pochop moved to approve the AKRS quote for $6,800 with some installation and related work to be completed by Road & Bridge staff; Commissioner Alan A. Solko seconded the motion and it carried. The county will proceed with the purchase and use in-house labor where feasible.
Lanning also reported that the CAT mechanic is in Herndon working on the county’s backup road grader. Commissioners approved contracting CAT to complete the grader repairs in Herndon after a motion by Commissioner Pochop, seconded by Commissioner Solko; the motion carried.
Local resident Lester Yoos offered to use his dozer to repair a washed-out road damaged by floods four years earlier, estimating the cost at about $2,000. Commissioner Solko moved to allow Yoos to perform the repair for $2,000, Commissioner Mosley seconded, and the motion carried. "It would cost around $2,000.00 to fix it," Yoos said when offering the work.
The board’s actions combined immediate equipment purchases, contracted repairs and a low-cost local repair to restore road access. No additional funding sources or timelines were provided during the meeting.
