Council advances multiple budget amendments and sends bridge‑naming ordinance to public hearing

On the budget docket, the council introduced an ordinance to amend the 2025 adopted operating budget for a DRA road study ($150,000) and to amend the 2026 budget for welcome‑signs ($17,690) and sanitation ($115,768), among other smaller emergency‑preparedness and drainage line items. Several items were advanced by committee motions and adopted on voice votes; the council scheduled public hearings for March 25, 2026 for most budget matters.
Separately, the council considered an ordinance to name the Thompson Road bridge that crosses Bayou Chauvin the "Clayton J. Voisin Senior Memorial Bridge." Councilmember Carl Harding moved an amendment to correct the highway reference (changing Highway 55 to Highway 56) after legal review. Legal counsel confirmed the ordinance language could be amended and councilmembers discussed district appropriateness. The substitute motion to amend language and send the ordinance to public hearing was seconded and passed by voice vote.
Committee reports from Budget & Finance, Public Service and Community Development presented multiple proposed ordinances to be heard on the March 25 public‑hearing docket, including zoning and modular‑home code changes, a proposed 15 mph zone on several streets, and several insurance agent appointments to take effect in April. Most committee items were accepted and ratified by council action during the meeting.
