Argyle’s Planning & Zoning Commission on April 1 revised staff’s proposed non‑fixed food establishment rules to block semi‑permanent food‑truck courts and to permit short, temporary food‑vendor events under a town permit. The motion, which passed 6–0, makes mobile food‑vendor courts prohibited and allows temporary mobile food‑vendor permits for two days within any 60‑day period in areas zoned community retail (CR) and business park (BP).
Staff had proposed two new uses: a mobile food vendor court (a semi‑permanent, site‑planed food‑park use requiring an SUP) and a mobile food vendor temporary site (a temporary use initially proposed for 30 days, extendable once). Commissioners expressed concern about permanent or semi‑permanent food courts in Argyle’s rural‑oriented character and said they preferred to permit short, itinerant operations that do not occupy parking or become de facto permanent fixtures.
Under the commission’s change, temporary site operations will require a town permit rather than the SUP route and will be limited to two days in any 60‑day period and to properties zoned CR or BP. Staff also clarified that permits must prevent trucks from occupying parking spaces that serve the host business and that state health certificates required later in the year will be part of operator compliance.
