Council approves forestry services contract to implement Deer Creek hazardous fuels project

Evan (city staff) described the project as Nevada City–specific work to protect critical infrastructure and neighborhoods in the Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI). He said funding comes from CHIRP (funded by PG&E) and other grants, and staff ran a competitive procurement process. The recommended firm (identified in the packet as TubeSued/TubeSued Inc.) was ranked highly and offered the lowest cost. The council approved a contract not to exceed $44,730 and authorized a project contingency of up to $5,270; the city manager was authorized to execute the contract.
Council discussion highlighted the project’s importance for fire-safety mitigation, noted earlier planning grants from the Sierra Nevada Conservancy and coordination with community Firewise groups, and emphasized environmental compliance and the need for the forester to oversee technical treatment units and coordination with the city’s crews and potential CAL FIRE involvement.
