Construction update: Nexus reports steady progress on referendum‑funded projects across Wausau schools

At John Geer Middle School Anderson said the music addition is in its finish stage, with "roofing is complete, exterior insulation and windows, interior gypsum, the interior painting, the MEP rough ins," and flooring work underway. At John Muir contractors have replaced approximately 85% of the roof, upgraded interior lighting to LED (gymnasium ~95% complete), completed masonry and installed sound panels in the auditorium, and are finishing theatrical lighting and rigging.
On the Wausau West campus he reported the new front office structure is largely complete, exterior finishes and roofing are near completion, interior drywall and painting are progressing, and auditorium upgrades (sound panels and theatrical equipment) and a fitness‑center demolition and footing work are underway (fitness addition ~25% complete). Anderson noted a temporary re‑use of gym or court space for fitness equipment during construction and that some unsuitable soils and existing subsurface tunnels required attention.
Thomas Jefferson is under active construction and described as "roughly 85% complete" on current tasks; secure front‑entrance upgrades for two elementary schools (G.D. Jones and Maine) will start soon. Anderson said the West High multipurpose project was out for bid and due later in the week.
Board members asked questions about ADA seating in the auditorium (Anderson said a small number of seats were removed to provide accessible seating and a new lift access) and what portions of buildings would remain in use when classes resume; Anderson said phasing will concentrate active construction in limited areas while students and staff use other spaces.
The district will continue to present construction and budget updates at future meetings.
