Council approves Unit J parking-lot concert Sept. 5 with conditions

The Nevada City Council unanimously approved a special-event permit on July 24 for a Unit J parking-lot concert scheduled for Sept. 5, 2025.
Justin Rainey, speaking for Unit J, told the council the event will be contained on private property, the parking lot owner has given approval, neighbors have been notified, and organizers will use temporary fencing, portable restrooms and onsite security. He said the plan includes presale tickets ($20) and $25 at the door, membership access for club members, and a fenced alcohol area with a required one-day ABC permit. "We added Nevada City to our general liability insurance for $1,000,000," he said.
Councilmembers praised the organizer’s security planning and neighborhood outreach; concerns about capacity and the artist’s draw were raised but did not block approval. Councilmember Fleming moved to accept the proposal; Vice Mayor Cici seconded and a roll-call vote showed unanimous support.
What happens next: Organizers must secure the ABC one-day permit and any required vendor approvals and comply with any conditions staff identifies. The city will monitor compliance with fencing, security, and limits on alcohol service.
